Orange Chromide, Pseudetroplus maculatus (Bloch., 1795): A Potential Euryhaline Fish Model to Evaluate Climate Change Adaptations in Fishes

چکیده
Orange chromide, Pseudetroplus maculatus is a euryhaline species with both ornamental and food value. The has several attributes similar to other fish model organisms such as smaller size, repeated breeding, ease of maintenance, higher fecundity. A salinity tolerance study was performed in different salinities (0, 15, 35 ppt) triplicate introducing 10 fishes each (5.4 ± 0.08 g) 12 plastic tanks 60 L water-holding capacity. Fish were fed commercial feed (1.2 mm 40% protein) at 5% body weight twice daily for 45 days. No significant variation (p< 0.05) growth survival observed during the indicating wide species. Experimental breeding freshwater seawater (35 revealed ability breed varying salinities. Lenience captive broodstock development, pair formation, year-round natural makes seed production easier. Characteristics multiple spawnings, prolonged incubation period (48 72 hours) useful elaborative embryonic studies, shorter larval development cycle (25 30 days), better acceptance live ( Artemia nauplii flakes) by larvae make potential assess physiological changes Minimal input requirements lower capital operational investments it an ideal organism studying impact climatic environmental on farming habitats.

متن کاملTransformational adaptation when incremental adaptations to climate change are insufficient.
All human-environment systems adapt to climate and its natural variation. Adaptation to human-induced change in climate has largely been envisioned as increments of these adaptations intended to avoid disruptions of systems at their current locations. In some places, for some systems, however, vulnerabilities and risks may be so sizeable that they require transformational rather than incrementa...
متن کاملTransgenerational acclimation of fishes to climate change and ocean acidification
There is growing concern about the impacts of climate change and ocean acidification on marine organisms and ecosystems, yet the potential for acclimation and adaptation to these threats is poorly understood. Whereas many short-term experiments report negative biological effects of ocean warming and acidification, new studies show that some marine species have the capacity to acclimate to warme...
متن کاملMetabolic adjustments during semi-aestivation of the marble swamp eel (Synbranchus marmoratus, Bloch 1795)--a facultative air breathing fish.
Metabolic changes, principally in intermediary metabolism and nitrogen excretion, were investigated in the marble swamp eel (Synbranchus marmoratus) after 15 and 45 days of artificially induced semi-aestivation. Glucose, glycogen, lactate, pyruvate, free amino acids, triglycerides, ammonia, urea, and urate contents were determined in liver, kidney, white muscle, heart, brain, and plasma. Lactat...
